I have a patent now what?

Hi Abby. After several years I finally have a patent now what?! I’m so happy! Do I need to find a company who might be interested in buying it or do I look for an investor first? And, at what point do I develop my marketing plan?

Hello James. I’m unclear on the direction you’re moving towards. Are you going to sell it yourself? Are you going to sell it to a company? Are you going to license it? I’m feeling you may be unclear on the direction as well so there are  3 books I will suggest to you or anyone else coming at me with the famous, I have a patent now what question.

I never refer books I haven’t read or books I don’t think will be helpful in a particular situation. I have 67 books regarding patents and intellectual property. If this is a field (inventions) you think you’d do well in and want to develop yourself into the role, read everything you can. And come here often! :) .

I Have A Patent Now What? Now, Get Your Idea Making Money. Read These Books!

The first book is One Simple Idea by Stephen Key. It’s about 250 pates and is awesome. Stephen Key became a billionaire through 20 simple ideas. The book is subtitled Turn Your Dreams into a Licensing Goldmine While Letting Others Do the Work.

The second book is Profit From Your Idea: How to Make Smart Licensing Deals, written by Attorney Richard Stim. For people who already have a patent who don’t want to market much less manufacture the product themselves.

Finally is Richard Levy’s, The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Cashing In On Your Inventions. Based on Mr. Levy’s own experiences and shows the readers how to take their ideas to the next level and beyond. I personally have all of Richard Levy’s books.

I hope these books help you as much as they have me James!Abby
