Science Fair Ideas. I Bet You Can Come Up With A Million Of Them

Kids and their parents know well in advance if they have to come up with great science fair ideas. Instead of waiting until a couple days before D-Day, I’m going to show you how to come up with your own science fair ideas that will clobber any competition at the fair. If you’re looking for Kids Invention Ideas, go to > inventions for kids

Have 1st Place Science Fair Ideas

Keep reading to see if I’ve answered a question just like your regarding science fair ideas. I also list 4 resources on this page that will have your child winning science fairs many times over. More than just science fair ideas, these will help kids, at any age, learn to think like geniuses. Best of all, they are all fun, even the books!

Geoff W. from Wisconsin wants to know about…Science fair ideas?

My daughter has about 2 weeks until her science fair and needs ideas. I’ve been putting off writing you Abby and now we’re down to the wire. She needs some science fair ideas or invention ideas. This fair is for older kids so it’s can’t be anything child like. It will help boost her grade in chemistry. Any ideas?

I might, but you didn’t even tell me the theme for the science fair ideas!

Shame on you for doing leg work for someone who is old enough to be in chemistry. I really don’t know how you can come up with your science fair ideas and prepare everything in 2 weeks.Abby

Genius Science Fair Ideas With LEGO MindStorms

Aside from the books I’ve listed on this page, here’s something that’s not only totally fun but so educational your kid will floor you with how smart they really are. This isn’t just great help for science fair ideas but for mind development as well.

It’s called the LEGO MindStorms Robotics Invention System. The MindStorms Invention System isn’t just for kids, it’s for adults too. It’s powerful enough for college students to make impressive prototypes and projects but it’s also simple enough for grade school kids. It’s simply the best robot kit available on the market today. But, don’t just think about the typical “Robot” that you see in old cartoons. The MindStorms Invention System is so much more than that. It teaches simple computer programming as well. Imagine the head start your kids will have as they go through the upper grades.

I’d love to see the science fair ideas you come up with. Send them to me here and I’ll put them on this site for the world to admire!

My family has used the MindStorms system for years, I wrote about it here. It’s not only addictive, but it becomes quite a hobby in addition to being the best start for any science fair ideas. I can’t say enough about how helpful it’s been for my daughters in school (the MindStorms NT system). Science has become fun for them and their creativity has exponentially grown so much, they’re like cool little geniuses.

Roberto W. from New Mexico wants to know about…Can you give me any really cool science fair ideas?

I entered thinking that I really wanted to do a project. I forgot that baseball season was starting. I really haven’t thought about the science fair all that much since I practice every day and have games on Saturdays. Anyways Abby my mom said I should write to you for any science fair ideas you can give me. Please don’t make it hard!!

Of course I have ideas. My first idea is to figure out what happened over the last 20 years that kids think they’re entitled to have everything done for them.  I’m not going to do your homework for you, I’ll show you how to do it instead. Keep reading all the way to the bottom of the page. Abby

Elizabeth W. from Kansas wants to know about…Any new ideas please?

Hi Abby. My daughter needs some science fair ideas and we haven’t been able to think of anything. Do you have any inventions for kids that I can use? Can you tell me privately?

I don’t do “private” however, if you keep reading, the bottom of this page will give you help for science fair projects. You can also check out the inventions for kids page, however these aren’t really science fair ideas projects.Abby

What started out as one of a high school girls science fair ideas turned int a full blown business and got her nominated for Glamor Magazine’s “21 Amazing Young Women” Award.

At 16, who’d have thought just 3 years later Katherine Bomkamp would have a major manufacturer for prosthetic limbs interested in her science fair idea called Pain Free Socket?

Here is the link to the U.S. Patent for Katherine’s Pain Free Socket device.

Carl E. from Indiana wants to know about… Hi Abby! Can you clue me in on some great science fair ideas that haven’t already been invented?

I’d be grateful if you could provide me with some good invention ideas for science. These should be science fair ideas tackling problems that consumers face. And of course, be the solution.

These “problems” should be everyday problems so the invention ideas could be attractive to the masses and the judges! While you’re thinking, maybe think about solutions for the kitchen or while at work. I don’t mind if these are science fair ideas or an actual invention ready to be patented.

Would you like fries with that?

Carl, you should know better than to email me a question like this. I mean, don’t get me wrong, your communication skills are wonderful and I’m glad you let me know what “types” of inventions you’d like… exactly.  So here’s my concise answer… No. What you’re asking me is wrong, on so many levels, I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.

Maybe you don’t think it’s cool to be smart. Tell you what, it’s even less cool to be a dumb adult. Keep reading to the bottom of the page for help.Abby

Abby’s Real Answer To Everyone Above

As stated in my Contact Page, please read this page before you email me. The latter page asks on #17 to please not ask me for ideas. (Ok I don’t say please). I think I’m going to name the page we’re on right now, the Wall Of Shame and I will add to it each time someone asks me to send them an invention idea.

NOW… if any of you are serious about needing help coming up with ideas for invention, read the following for HOW to come up with your own ideas: Inventions for kids even if you aren’t a kid, and the science fair ideas books below.

science fair season - science fair ideas for parentsScience Fair Season: Twelve Kids, a Robot Named Scorch, and What It Takes to Win: This book is not only so inspiring you’ll cry, but it’s for every parent who does their kids science fair projects or comes up with science fair ideas for them. This book will give you so many reasons not to do their homework, it will make your jaw drop.

It’s a seriously good book that both kids and adults will love and probably re-read if given the chance. This might teach your kids how to come up with science fair project ideas, but more, it will teach the parent how much they take away from their kids by not letting (making) them spread their wings for themselves.

Complete Handbook of Science Fair IdeasThe Complete Book of Science Fair Projects
This really is a complete book. It not only goes into planning for the Science Fair, but everything from your display to what you should do at the fair to have an award winning project.

There are also 50 science fair ideas for projects given as well as 400 science fair project topics. Parents that have children from 4th grade through 11 or 12th grade should have this book available to their kids.

The school should have it too, but I know neither one of my daughter’s schools have it.

Prize winning science fair ideasPrize-Winning Science Fair Projects for Curious Kids
If your child is in grades 2 to 8, this is the perfect book for them as it’s written very much for children. When my daughter started reading this, she immediately became interested in the “next” science fair. This was great because she really didn’t like science at all.

There are a little over 50 science fair ideas, and like “The Complete Book of Science Fair Projects” above, gives great detail about the Science Fair as a while including what judges will be looking for.
